Substance Abuse Help

Today’s teens are not only under a great deal of pressure, but the accessibility of dangerous substances is greater than ever.

The FSMC Now You Know Program has one goal – to prevent substance abuse in adolescents and teenagers before there is a major problem. FSMC Certified Substance Abuse Prevention Specialists work with teens in a casual group setting, while simultaneously, parents meet together with a licensed clinical social worker.

Here are some comments from parents attending the program:

  • The lack of knowledge of the current drug trends in NJ, the availability of drugs in the schools and communities, as well as underage drinking is very frustrating and stressful for parents.
  • The parent packets provide great resources and we are now able to understand the day to day pressures our children are facing when it comes to peer pressure to experiment with drugs and alcohol, as well as the dangers of both at such young ages
  • The packets are a great resource – they contact various articles of teenage drug use/abuse, identifying drug trends and how to identify potential use, in addition to other important articles of interest.
  • I'm so grateful for a program such as this which has provided me with such important information and resources.

Although alcohol is sometimes considered harmless, the realization of the damage that early alcohol use can cause allowed these parents to reconsider their approach to underage alcohol use and “harmless” drug experimentation. Many parents expressed their hope that their child would learn from this embarrassing and unfortunate situation. Family Service of Morris County is there to provide this important information to parents going through unexpected, difficult situations with their adolescents.
